History
CfL are a company limited by guarantee, which was official launched in September 2002 to provide the basis for amalgamating three previous Training Provider Associations (TPA) operating in the Humber sub-region.
The key changes to the promotion, delivery and funding of Work Based Learning brought about by the Learning and Skills Act made it increasingly obvious that the TPA's were becoming outmoded as a means of representing the sector to external bodies. Consensus was soon reached that an umbrella organisation should be created to represent (as one voice) the interests of Work Based Learning providers in the Humber sub-region to the Learning & Skills Council (LSC) Humberside and other key partner organisations. Thus, following consultation with members (Work Based Learning providers) CfL was established, with the three chairs of each TPA initially forming the board of directors.
Following a period of change the board has grown to eight directors (each a senior manager/director of their own organisation - all Work Based Learning providers). All directors act in a voluntary capacity and it is the intention that, as part of developing CfL systems a process for the election of directors by members will be introduced.
